Conservation Volunteers

Volunteers repairing a footpath in the Park

The Conservation Volunteers are a group of local people who meet on the first Sunday of the month to help the Rangers of Cuerden Valley Park carry out conservation tasks. Tasks include rhododendron control, replacing steps, etc. Anyone physically fit is welcome to come along. Children under sixteen must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

The Park Rangers organise the group. As Cuerden Valley Park Trust is a charity, we appreciate the work undertaken by the volunteers.

Maintaining an area of the size and diversity of Cuerden Valley Park is a constant job and keeps the Park Rangers busy every day of the year. Therefore, we always welcome assistance from volunteers who are keen to play an active role in preserving our local environmental heritage.

As a volunteer, you would be a highly valued part of Cuerden Valley Park's committed team. You can learn new skills or develop existing ones and you will meet new people who share your interest in conservation and land management. You could be restoring footpaths or helping to replace steps for public access. Assistance is regularly needed in managing woodland and other areas to encourage wildlife and certain plants or to restrict the growth of potentially harmful species. Areas such as the walled orchard and American Garden also need to be maintained to a high standard.

If you want information about this work, please do not hesitate to contact the Park Office on 01772 324436 or email admin@cuerdenvalleypark.org.uk. There is also a leaflet available in the Visitor Centre.
